Bunbrosna Scór Notes
Leinster final: The Leinster final of Senior Scór 2008 was held in Ballymore on Sunday last. Bunbrosna had qualified for the final in two sections – the Ceol Uirlise and Rinnce Seit. The musicians were first to perform and did so to a very high standard and must feel a little unlucky not to have made it to the All-Ireland final in Killarney. The dancers were the last on the programme to perform and with the other three sets gone before them they knew they would have to be at their best to take the Leinster title. They were indeed at their best when they treated a very appreciative audience to a faultless performance of the Cavan Reel Set. There was no surprise among the very large crowd when they were crowned Leinster champions of 2008. We congratulate them and wish them the best of luck in the All-Ireland next month when they will be trying to regain the title they held in 2000. Our thanks to the musicians for their dedication and for representing the club so well and we are delighted to say that the musicians will play in Killarney when they will be accompanying the dancers as they have been doing throughout the various rounds and have indeed played a big part in the the success.
Congratulations and good luck to the competitors from Mullingar Shamrocks (Figure dancing), Moate Ballad group and The Downs (Solo Singing) who will also carry the Westmeath and Leinster flag to Killarney in April.
All-Ireland final will take place in the Gleneagle, Killarney on Saturday 26th April at 3pm. This will be an all-ticket event. Anyone wishing to attend and avail of the travel arrangements and accommodation should contact secretary Clare Moran immediately.

G.A.A Notes
Bunbrosna Gaa Notes
29th March 2007
On bank holiday Monday the 19th of March our lads completed
the treble of 2006 defeating Maryland in the Intermediate
cup final in Drumrany on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-03.
With a strong wind against bun in the first half the
Bun defense held a lively enough Maryland forward line
to a goal and 2 points, which would work out well in
Buns favor in the second half. Points from Noel Kiernan
and Peter Tormey and great defensive play from Andrew
and Darren keeping our lads well in contention for the
cup at the interval.
JP Reynolds was introduced at half time for Brian Maguire.
Good place kicking from Noel and sharp shooting from
play by Peter and Aidan showed that Bun were to strong
for Maryland. Again in the 2nd half our backs were on
fire keeping the opposition to a single point. Bring
on the Feis Cup!!
Team and scorers: Damien McCormack, Ger Brennan, Cormac
McCormack, Darren Geerah, Kevin Tormey, Andy Whitney,
Finian Newman, Aidan Finnan (1 point), Padraig Walsh,
Peter Tormey(6 points), Noel Kiernan (4 points) , Kevin
Mitchell,

(1 point). JP Reynolds, Colm McCormack, Johnny McCormack

Footnote: Bun were dealt a cruel blow on Sunday last
with the injury of influential and star player/p.r.o

extend my best wishes to him!!

preformed flawlessly and raised the roof! The All-Ireland

Intermediate
League Final
Last Saturday
our senior footballers stared off the new season in winning
fashion. We played the final of last years intermediate
league against Shandonagh. As our selves and Shandonagh
have great club rivalry the fixture proved to be an exciting
and hard fought final.
The first half started off at a great pace. A quality
point from wing back, Kevin Tormey open the scoring and
after Noel Kiernan was unluckily to see his shot for goal
hit the crossbar and go over the bar the score stood at
2 points to nil. Shandonagh replied while Buns Padraig
Walsh, Colm McCormack and another point from Noel Kiernan
left the score at half time 5 – 3 in favour of Bun.
The second half started off slower. But a well-worked
team point converted by Brian Maguire settled our lads.
Midway through the half Shandonagh was awarded a penalty.
Andy Fox stepped up to take the kick but Bunbrosna keeper
Damien McCormack proved too cunning and made himself the
hero with a fantastic save. Soon after the save Buns corner
forward Fintan Finnan had a shot on goal saved but up
stepped master goal-poacher JP Reynolds to calmly convert
the rebound to the net. Finian Newman slotted another
point over near the end to leave Bun run out deserved
winners on a score line of 1-07 to 0-04.
Great play from many players on Saturday helped us to
do the double including Kevin, Darren and Cormac in the
backs and Noel, JP and Simon in the forwards. Our midfield
also played excellent on the strong midfield pairing of
|David Duffy and Colin Galligan showing that Aidan and
Padraig will be a force to be reckoned within senior football
this year.
Team: Damien McCormack, Conor Newman, Cormac McCormack,
Darren Geerah, Kevin Tormey (0-01), Andy Whitney, Finian
Newman (0-01), Padraig Walsh (0-01), Aidan Finnan, Simon
Maher, Noel Kiernan (0-02), Brian Maguire (0-01), Colm
McCormack (0-01) JP Reynolds (1-00) and Fintan Finnan.
Johnny McCormack for Colm McCormack, Tommy Murphy for
JP Reynolds and Gerry Brennan for Padraig Walsh.

from minors upwards are asked to attend no later than
8:15.

Bun
Starts the Championship!!!
Big congratulations to the Bun intermediate team who got
the championship of to a great start last Sunday evening
in Cusack Park. Bun had a comfortable win over Moate All
Whites. From once Bun took the lead things looked bright
and early in the second half Moate came closest but the
goal was the difference and with the Bun target men on
form and Bun cruised home with the final score of 1:11
to 0:7pts The players last Sunday were as follows: E Murphy,
C. Newman, C McCormack, G. Brennan, K. Tormey, A. Whitney

Presentation
of medals!!
A great evening’s entertainment was had by all
who attended the presentation of county medals to
both Underage and Division 3 teams in Tormey’s
of Bunbrosna last Thursday night. The quantity of
medals presented reflected the very successful 2005
season, which the club had and let’s hope that
2006 can be as good at both underage and intermediate
level.
The club took
this opportunity to honour and pay tribute to Mick
McCormack who retired as chairman of Bun GAA earlier
this year after 33 years at the helm. The tributes
paid to Mick were reflective of every facet of the
club i.e. underage and intermediate level football
as well as Scor. Tributes in speech and verse indicated
the level of respect and gratitude felt by so many
for a man who has given so much of his time to Bun
GAA as a footballer, Scor participant or club chairman
Tributes
on the night came were not confined to Bun with
Clan Gael (ladies) also making a presentation, in
addition to messages of congrats from past chairman,
county officials and friends. The many speeches
made, gave an insight as to how the club has grown
and developed under Mick’s chairmanship. The
tremendous service and support of all the McCormack
family to Bun GAA was acknowledged on the night
with a presentation also made to Mick’s wife
Delores. Aris Go raibh maith agat a Mhiceal

| Thousandaire...Notes
March 22nd |
Bun GAA Club would
like to express its appreciation to all of those who provided
support to the club in the organisation of the recent Thousandaire
venture on St.Patrick's night in the Mullingar Park Hotel. We
are grateful to all of those who provided advertising sponsorship,
gave financial donations, provided raffle contributions or purchased
tickets for the event. Indeed this event could not have being
undertaken withot the generous sponsorship by John Madden and
Associates who were the primary sponsors. |
It is all of this
support that made this event a success and will allow the club
to continue the substantial development work that is already underway
on the clubhouse, surrounding environs and training facilities.
This event received suport from many other GAA Clubs within the
county, with some of these clubs represented among the contestants
on the night and whilst nobody won a € 1000, three people
got € 250 (not bad for 10 minutes work!). As well as these
winners the local charity LARC recieved € 150, when Ned Flynn
answered the celebrity questions and kindly donated the money
to this worthy cause. |
| So all in all a good
nights entertainment was had by those who attented, with the free
wine and cheese dissapearing within seconds!! |
|
| |
| Thousandaire...Notes
March 15th |
| Work has continued
at a tremendous pace in the organisation of this upcoming event
which will be held on Friday, March 17th. The level of support recieved
from people who have placed advertisements or purchased tickets
for the event is greatly appreciated by the Club. If the support
recieved to date is a measure of the event will run, it promises
to be a great night's craic. |
| Tickets
for the event are still on sale and they can be purchased form any
club member at the cost of €10 and can be purchased at
the door on the night. |
|
| Open day and
registration of underage members...Notes March 8th |
| The club held its
annual registration day at underage level on Sunday, February 26th.
There was a superb turnout at this event which saw renewal of membership
by some families and new members also joining on the day. There
were in excess of twenty family memberships registered which, with
the added entertainment of a table quiz and refreshments, provided
an afternoon of enjoyment for all involved. The success of this
event was down to the hard work and commitment of all those involved
with underage football at the club. |
