Read a brief history of Bunbrosn Scor

Scor Notes 1st March 2008

Leinster final:  The Leinster final of Senior Scór 2008 was held in Ballymore on Sunday last.  Bunbrosna had qualified for the final in two sections – the Ceol Uirlise and Rinnce Seit.  The musicians were first to perform and did so to a very high standard and must feel a little unlucky not to have made it to the All-Ireland final in Killarney.  The dancers were the last on the programme to perform and with the other three sets gone before them they knew they would have to be at their best to take the Leinster title.  They were indeed at their best when they treated a very appreciative audience to a faultless performance of the Cavan Reel Set.  There was no surprise among the very large crowd when they were crowned Leinster champions of 2008.  We congratulate them and wish them the best of luck in the All-Ireland next month when they will be trying to regain the title they held in 2000.  Our thanks to the musicians for their dedication and for representing the club so well and we are delighted to say that the musicians will play in Killarney when they will be accompanying the dancers as they have been doing throughout the various rounds and have indeed played a big part in the the success.
Congratulations and good luck to the competitors from Mullingar Shamrocks (Figure dancing), Moate Ballad group and The Downs (Solo Singing) who will also carry the Westmeath and Leinster flag to Killarney in April.

All-Ireland final will take place in the Gleneagle, Killarney on Saturday 26th April at 3pm.  This will be an all-ticket event.  Anyone wishing to attend and avail of the travel arrangements and accommodation should contact secretary Clare Moran immediately.

Bunbrosna Scór Notes

All Ireland Finals: A large number of supporters travelled to Killarney at the weekend, where our set-dancers gave a faultless performance in the All -Ireland final. Having practiced through the winter months and gone through the various rounds to claim the Westmeath title and then being crowned champions of Leinster, they qualified for the final. This in itself was a wonderful achievement and Kenny, Seamus, Christopher, Robbie, Susan, Sandra, Veronica and Sheila along with their musicians, Sharon, Leona and Lorraine and mentor, Colin are to be congratulated. Well done all! You did yourselves, club, county and province proud.

Thanks to all our sponsors, Hugh Tormey for the use of his premises for practice, to Colette and Clare for all their work in ensuring that all had tickets and a bed and to all our supporters who travelled the long journey to Killarney. Thanks also to all who represented the club from the first rounds. Without your participation “Killarney” wouldn’t have happened for us.

We extend our heartiest congratulations to Mary Hughes from Mullingar Shamrocks and to the Ballad Group from Moate All-Whites on their wonderful victories…..a great night for Scór Iarmhí. Well done to Des Maguire and his committee on a “job well done”

Sympathy: On a sad note, we extend our sincere sympathy to the Clarke family, Portnashangan and Castletown-Geo on their sad bereavement at the weekend.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Killarney, be prepared......the "Bun Machine" is on it's way for the All-Ireland final which will take place in the fine National Events Centre at the Gleneagle Hotel on Saturday 28th April. They are wished every success at the finals and we hope they bring home their second Rinnce Seit All-Ireland title. Anyone intending to travel to Killarney should contact Clare or Colette as soon as possible re tickets and accommodation.

Congratulations and best wishes to the other Westmeath Groups from Mullingar Shamrocks, and Moate All- Whites on taking the titles in Nuacleas, Aithriseoireacht and Bailéad Grúpa...a great achievement for the county. The other two groups, the figure dancers from Shamrocks and the musicians of Ballymore seemed a bit unlucky on the night as they also gave excellent performances while the trath na gceist team from St. Josephs failed to reclaim the title they held in 2002, 2003 and 2004 in a very close competition on the night.

2006/07 has been a great year for Bun, winning the Intermediate Championship and league, and the Intermediate cup for 2005 and 2006 and now the Leinster Scór title.

On a sad note now, the Club extends sincere sympathy to the McGlynn family, Rathowen on their recent bereavement.
"Ar Dheis Dé go raibh anam Liam".

Cultural Celebration Concert

Our long awaited concert took place in Mullingar Arts Centre on Friday night and what a great night's entertainment it was. The performers gave a feast of Music, Song, Dance and Drama to the capacity audience. While the quality of the music, singing and dancing commanded the attention of all, the sketches had them rolling in their seats and not a line was missed. There were even a few added in!! The colourful costumes added to a night's entertainment that was thoroughly enjoyed by all present - a job well done, Margaret!

Thanks to all who attended, those who sold tickets and to Colette who supervised the tickets sales in such an efficient manner. Thanks also to the staff of the Arts Centre for their help on the night and in the lead-up to it. The lighting problem which occurred earlier in the day was soon put right by Sean Lynch and his helpers. Well done to John and his back-stage helpers.

Now, what do I say about the cast? They performed as never before and really set the scene for the trip to France on the 9th June. Many hours of practising night after night demanded a very high degree of commitment and this they gave willingly. Our thanks must go to them for their contribution to an excellent show and to Hugh Tormey for the use of his premises for practice at all times. At this stage, I express the club's sincere thanks to Jim, Susan,Christy and Des for their part in getting the show on the road. Jim also acted as "Fear an Tí" on the night. The three outsiders (not any more) Colin, Eddie and Jerome put many miles on the clock. Thanks to them also and last but not least to our efficient doorman, Michael. All in all a lot of work by a large number of dedicated people.

Well Done to all!

Dolores McCormack

Bunbrosna Musicians unlucky not to get through to the Leinster Final..

Well done to the musicians of Bunbrosna who took part in the Leinster semi-finals of Scor Sinsear in the Downs GAA Club on Saturday evening last, March 4th.
Our Musicians put in an excellent performance on the night and only for the competition was so tight things may have went better. They were very unlucky not to get through to the Leinster Final which will be held in Clara on Saturday, March the 25th.
We wish all competitors from Iar Mhi every success in the Final.

Bunbrosna Musicians through to the Leinster Semi-Final!!

Congratulations to our Instrumental Music Group who were crowned county champions on Saturday night last. They gave an excellent performance to take the title.

Our representatives in Figure dance, Solo Singing, Novelty Act, Question Time, Ballad Group and Set dancing also put in great performances on the night and with competition very keen, they must be deemed unlucky not to have taken another title or two. However, all can feel justifiably proud of their performances

Congratulations to all who will join our musicians in the Leinster semi-final on Saturday night. Best of luck to all!!!
